In Foundation to Year Two, the mathematics curriculum is delivered in an engaging and hands on way to ensure a passion for mathematics.
In line with the Australian Curriculum, the three content descriptions explored are:
- Number and algebra
- Measurement and Geometry
- Statistics.
By the end of Year Two, students will have developed their understanding of number sense by connecting names, numerals, and quantities. They will learn of the flexibility of numbers by partitioning and combining numbers. Students will learn to describe the relationship between addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division.
Students will learn to become fluent in counting numbers in different sequences and identifying and creating patterns. When advancing their reasoning skills, students will derive strategies to help them with unfamiliar calculations and learn to make comparisons when facing a math problem. They will become problem solvers through lessons structured around authentic situations and expanding their critical thinking skills.
